Internships

UDR offers several student internships each school semester. Students are assigned special projects or tasks in the office that relate to their fields of study. UDR provides training and supervision. Students receive school credit as approved by their educational programs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Utah Dispute Resolution relies on the efforts of trained, qualified volunteers to provide mediation services. All UDR mediators must meet the requirements for the Utah Court Roster of Mediators. To view these requirements, click here.

UDR offers opportunities for trained mediators to gain experience with the mediation process in these programs:

Small Claims Mediation Volunteer mediators conduct mediations for small claims courts in Salt Lake City, West Jordan, West Valley City, Taylorsville, Bountiful, Ogden, and Logan.

Small Claims Appeals Mediation Salt Lake County and Davis County district courts require mediation prior to trial for small claims cases that are appealed. UDR coordinates this program for the Court and uses more experienced volunteer mediators to conduct these mediations. Mediations are conducted at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City and at the district courthouse in Farmington.

Community Mediation Volunteer mediators help parties resolve a variety of disputes, including issues between landlords and tenants, consumers and merchants, employers and employees, and business partners. Disputants in these cases contact UDR directly for services, prior to filing a court motion. Mediations are conducted at one of UDR's offices or at other convenient locations throughout Utah.

Family Mediation UDR maintains a limited roster of experienced mediators who qualify to conduct domestic mediations. These mediators volunteer their time to assist low- and middle-income clients resolve issues relating to divorce, separation, parenting, child support, and interpersonal relationships.
